Ellis Arnstein (Developmental Pediatrician): Dr. Ellis Arnstein has 35 years of experience in pediatrics. He is a Developmental Pediatrician and an advocate for children with special needs. Since 2007 he has been an Assistant Attending at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center, with a wide range of expertise in caring for children with a multitude of disorders, especially autism. He currently runs the Autism Parent Support Group and enjoys teaching parents about the complexities of autism. Dr. Arnstein has held a variety of leadership roles at other medical centers and institutions for the past 35 years. He is also a consult physician for the New York City Department of Education. Dr, Arnstein is extremely knowledge about autism and holds the training and experience to consider, in his assessments and treatments, the medical and psychosocial aspects of children’s and adolescents’ developmental and behavioral problems

Nadeem Shabbir(Pediatric Neurologist): Dr. Nadeem Shabbir has an expansive 22 years of experience in pediatric neurology. Ranging from his leadership experience as Chief Resident of Pediatrics at Columbia University/St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center to multi-faceted clinical experience as an attending physician in the pediatrics division of child neurology at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital, he is very experienced and performs excellent everyday clinical work, specializing in epilepsy. He is very familiar with the culturally and linguistically diverse patient population as he has been working at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center for the past five seven years.  

 

Dr. Wendy Zapata (General Pediatrician): I currently work concurrently with Dr. Kairam in the Department of Pediatrics on a daily basis.  I am available to provide care for all children who receive services at Bronx-LebanonHospitalCenter and am very interested in contributing to Dr. Kairam’s SouthBronxAutismCenter. I am very knowledgeable of ASD and the co-morbidities these children experience.  I am bi-lingual in Spanish and English and have had much experience caring for children with special needs. I will be accessible to assume responsibility for the general, preventive medical management and primary care needs of children participating in the proposed research.  My extensive experience in family practice will lend care for both the child affected by ASD and his or her family
