Ram Kairam (Pediatric Neurologist): For the past 15 years Dr. Ram Kairam been working as Chairman of Pediatrics at Lincoln Hospital followed by Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center while continuing to practice as a developmental neurologist. Completing his training in pediatrics neonatology and pediatric neurology, he has worked continuously in urban low-income, high-need communities as a developmental neurologist, program developer and, more recently, a parent educator to reduce the burden of chronic debilitating neuro-developmental disorders. Dr. Kairam has innovatively developed the Adolescent and Young Adult Program, a Child Advocacy Center, The Child Study Center, Community Health Education Center and most recently the Autism Treatment and Advocacy Center (ATAC). He has developed a team within the ATAC to diagnose, counsel, advocate and provide specialty consultations for all co morbidities of Autism Spectrum Disorders. His extensive involvement in measuring outcomes of perinatally acquired brain injury and neurological consequences of congenital HIV infection made him realize the need for an Autism Registry to study the natural history of autism, particularly the socio-cultural and health care needs of autistic children as they transition into adulthood. Aside from his dedication and interest in the ATAC, under his leadership, the Pediatric Asthma Center has flourished and no coordinates the activities of the South Bronx Asthma Partnership (SOBRAP), a NY State funded program of over 30 community-based organizations dedicated to reducing asthma related morbidity. Jay Selman (Pediatric Neurologist / Sleep Medicine): Dr. Jay Selman has been a pediatric neurologist for more than 30 years. During that time he has cared for children and adolescents with neurological disorders, including autism, developmental problems, epilepsy, ADHD, migraine headaches. Dr. Selman has a special interest and advanced training in Sleep Medicine. He helps children with problems falling or staying asleep, snoring, and related issues. Dr. Selman has worked with Dr. Kairam and the Autism Home to develop a registry of all the patients at Bronx Lebanon who have autism. This will be very important in improving care and learning more about this disorder. Dr. Selman is fluent in Spanish. He is proud to work with such a dedicated team of physicians, social workers, community organizers, and researchers to help families and children with autism and other neurological disorders. Ellis Arnstein (Developmental Pediatrician): Dr. Ellis Arnstein has 35 years of experience in pediatrics. He is a Developmental Pediatrician and an advocate for children with special needs. Since 2007 he has been an Assistant Attending at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center, with a wide range of expertise in caring for children with a multitude of disorders, especially autism. He currently runs the Autism Parent Support Group and enjoys teaching parents about the complexities of autism. Dr. Arnstein has held a variety of leadership roles at other medical centers and institutions for the past 35 years. He is also a consult physician for the New York City Department of Education. Dr, Arnstein is extremely knowledge about autism and holds the training and experience to consider, in his assessments and treatments, the medical and psychosocial aspects of children’s and adolescents’ developmental and behavioral problems Nadeem Shabbir(Pediatric Neurologist): Dr. Nadeem Shabbir has an expansive 22 years of experience in pediatric neurology. Ranging from his leadership experience as Chief Resident of Pediatrics at Columbia University/St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center to multi-faceted clinical experience as an attending physician in the pediatrics division of child neurology at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital, he is very experienced and performs excellent everyday clinical work, specializing in epilepsy.
